The Guide To Using A Student Credit Card Sensibly
November 7th, 2007
ü The first thing to keep in mind when using a student credit card is that what you are spending has to be paid back. Do not treat your credit card like an unending supply of free money.
ü Another thing that you should always remember with any credit card, student or otherwise, is that the operative word here is credit. Whenever you use a credit card, you are borrowing money from someone which needs to be paid back with interest. Always keep in mind that borrowing is for emergencies only.
ü A lot of students think that they can get away with behaving irresponsibly with a credit card—not paying bills on time, running up huge amounts and getting a large number of cards issued—because they are not yet adults and can be carefree about life. Always remember that if you are old enough to be eligible for a credit card of your own, then you are also enough to handle all your finances sensibly, or you should be.
ü Select a card that has the least amount of interest and low or no credit card fees. Keep a track of your credit card expenditure. Do not exceed the credit limit. Pay your bills on time and pay the full amount instead of making a minimum payment. Never get into credit card debt. And last but not the least; do not expect your parents to bail you out of credit card debt.
